Tim Swanston is a reporter, video journalist and photographer.

Tim has worked for Australia’s public broadcaster, ABC News, for eight years, reporting in the South Pacific, the Middle East, the United Kingdom and Australia. He currently works as ABC’s Indonesia Correspondent, covering a swathe of southeast Asia. He has extensive experience in broadcast television, digital video, podcasting, social media and digital storytelling. As Papua New Guinea Correspondent, Tim reported extensively on development, geo-politics, defence, tribal conflict, corruption, resources and land disputes.

Tim is an experienced field reporter and videographer, with the ability to be deployed independently into challenging and complex environments. He excels at establishing networks, gathering content and filing for traditional and emerging platforms. He has covered the Israel-Iran war, news in the UK and the Middle East, deadly riots and tribal violence in Papua New Guinea, and has covered some of the largest news events in Australia in the last few years, including the pandemic, the Black Summer bushfires and the northern New South Wales floods.
